Awe! Welcome to The Destablishment
What is The Destablishment? Or, as Drax from Guardians of the Galaxy would put it, “Why is The Destablishment?” When I started the YouTube Creators Academy’s Courses, shortly after I saw the need for something like, or rather, exactly like the “The Destablishment.” I began with their first suggested course, of course, The Quickstart Guide to YouTube. Now if you’re not familiar with these courses (if you want to be a YouTuber, I suggest you get familiar with them), they are presented in the form of lessons consisting of concise “meals” of information, followed by exercises pertaining to that “meal” and lastly, at the end of the lesson, there is a small multiple-choice test to make sure you understand that which you’ve learnt (and that you don’t end up creating some “Tortuga Island” in the middle of the “fair content sea”). The first lesson, aptly named “Welcome to YouTube”, gives you a good idea about the Creative Utopia its founders had in mind. It’s really a beautiful vision I wish all people aspired to. But, I digress; the second exercise of this first lesson asks you to write down a mission statement.
Now, I know what you’re thinking… “Wow, a mission statement!? You mean like we were taught to do for almost every endeavour since Primary School?” Yes, exactly. But rather than the mission statement of some small club, this would be the “Who are We” for what could eventually, hopefully become a global movement potentially impacting millions of people. Then again, it could not. C’est la vie. The Mission Statement I wrote, reads as follows: “The Destablishment (not to be confused with ‘Disestablishmentarianism’) is a movement with a freedom-orientated ideology. It emphasises the importance of individual identity, separated from the mechanics of the Establishment. Mission: Promote the above ideology; Offer motivation and inspiration to individuals (and communities) who require it; Give insightful solutions to everyday battles; Create a Growth-friendly environment.” I amend it here with:
“To break down the Barriers, Beliefs and Moulds the World forces us to adhere to, and build up the organic, natural person to excel at being no more and no less than their complete self.” I end this video with the words of Charlie Chaplin’s “The Great Dictator” and as heard in Paolo Nutini’s incredible song, “Iron Sky”. “To those who can hear me, I say, do not despair. The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed, the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress. The hate of men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people. And so long as men die, Liberty will never perish. Don’t give yourselves to these unnatural men! Machine men! With machine minds and machine hearts! You are not machines! You are not Cattle! You are MEN! You, the people, have the power to make this life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure. Let us use that power. Let us all unite!” Subscribe You know you want to
